Giving Irish land back to the wild
Heritage Rewilding Ireland exists to reverse biodiversity loss on former agricultural land — one square metre at a time — funded by a global community of stewards who care about Ireland's natural future.
The Problem
Ireland's biodiversity is in crisis
Decades of intensive commercial agriculture have dramatically reduced biodiversity and wildlife habitat across Ireland. Hedgerows torn out. Wetlands drained. Meadows replaced by monocultures.
Heritage Rewilding Ireland acquires former agricultural land and allows nature to reclaim it — with minimal human intervention. No planting programmes. No landscaping. Just land given back to the wild, monitored, mapped, and shared with stewards around the world.
From farmland to the wild — the journey begins
The land that will become Heritage Rewilding Ireland's pilot rewilding site is currently in its final season of agricultural use — a crop of spring oats growing in the fields of Co. Waterford. This is the last time this land will be farmed.
When the harvest comes in autumn 2026, the land enters a new chapter. The fields will be left to natural succession — no further planting of commercial crops, no herbicides, no artificial intervention. Native wild plants will begin to return on their own terms.
We are capturing this transition from the very beginning. Founding members join now — before a single camera is installed, before the first wildflower grows — and become part of the story from its opening lines.
Be part of it from the beginning
Founding membership is a unique opportunity to join Heritage Rewilding Ireland before the rewilding has even begun. You are not sponsoring something already established — you are funding its creation.
Your founding membership directly pays for camera installation, baseline ecological monitoring, and the initial transition from farmland to nature. Without founding members, the infrastructure that makes stewardship meaningful cannot be built.
In recognition of that early commitment, founding members receive five years of Premium membership — our highest tier — at a founding price, and are permanently listed on the Heritage Founding Register.
